Ava's Recovery

I feel like recovery isn't the correct word. Because her recovery was literally overnight. As I type, she is playing football in the living room. Her surgery was on Monday and Tuesday we were released pretty early! I promise she was happier than she looks. She was pretty swollen and had a hard time moving her lips.

At this point she still hadn't put any weight on her leg. Every time we would try she would cry in agony. This kid isn't very dramatic so I knew she was in pain.
Tuesday night brought a visit from Lisa aka "Mrs. Mullen". She brought over a bag of ice cream, popsicles, and pushups! Just what the Dr. ordered.

She also brought a goody bag from Ava's class. Each kid in her class had made her a card and they got her a ninja turtle blanket. These cards. We were laughing so hard!

They were absolutely the sweetest!
On Wednesday, we forced her to stand on her leg and take a couple of steps. It wasn't pretty but we needed to push it along a little. Well, when we woke up on Thursday...

She was walking! With a police escort, too! She walked with a bad limp for a day and they had a little lean thing going on. And by the weekend? You would have never known she had major surgery a week prior. This kid rocked her procedure! We have had the follow up with the oral surgeon and everything is perfect! We go back in 3 months for X-rays to see if the graft took. Fingers crossed!
Thank you to our friends and family for all of the love and support!
We are amazed and grateful for each and every one of you!
