Care Package

I received notification today that Ava's care package will be shipped out within the next couple of days. WOOHOO!! I ordered the care package from a website called RedThreadChina.com. This is a website owned by a woman in the US and a woman in China who met a few years back. They now send care packages to babies in the orphanages while awaiting their parents arrival. They even send pictures of what will be in the care package. Check it out!!

I was really excited that she included the picture of John and I that I sent. Ava may not get it, but who know what details she could retain!!

Just Waiting...

There is nothing new to report...UNFORTUNATELY...

We sent all of the required paperwork back to the agency. Now we just want to receive the approval from China with our travel date. We were told it could be a couple of months before we hear our travel. Please just let it be July, so we can be with her for her birthday!! I do not want to miss another one.

On April 14th, we sent a care package via Red Tread China to Ava. We sent her a set of pajamas, a doll, a blanket, a sweatshirt, some candies for the care workers, and a disposable camera for them to take pictures of her going forward. I am hoping to hear from them soon with news and possibly some pictures.

Until then...we just wait.

I created this blog so I can share with our family and friends the sheer joy and happiness that we are feeling and will only continue to grow!!



We received "THE CALL" on March 24, 2010 around 11pm. I was sound asleep and heard that phone ringing, I could hardly function enough to get my ear plugs out! After a 45 minute call going over all of the documention they received from China, we barely slept the rest of the night.

The next day I made a Dr. appt to go over all of her medical records. The Dr. told us she was healthy, just a little underweight. Which we expected anyway. I called the agency immediately following the appointment to "accept" our referral. After a couple of weeks, we received our online approval and were able to share it with the world!! So here she is...

John and I would like you to meet our daughter, Ava Katherine Houghtaling. Born July 21, 2008 in Shanghai, China.

Even though we haven't met her, we love her beyond words.
